X is changing how creators make money on the platform.
The company is ending its Creator Revenue Sharing program and replacing it with a new system called Original Content Rewards.
X stopped accepting new applications for the old program on August 7, 2026, and plans to retire it after September 7, 2026.
What Is Changing?
The new Original Content Rewards program will focus more on rewarding creators for producing original content.
That includes:
- Original videos
- Photos
- Reporting and analysis
- Memes and graphics
- Meaningful commentary
Simply reposting someone else's content or adding a short caption won't qualify as original content.
What Does This Mean for Creators?
Creators will need to focus more on quality and originality instead of simply chasing likes, replies and reposts.
X is also introducing eligibility requirements, including minimum follower and impression thresholds.
For existing creators, the old revenue-sharing program will continue until September 7. After that, eligible creators will need to apply for the new program.
