Finally! iOS 26.1 Drops with a Crucial Fix: You Can Now Control Liquid Glass Transparency

Finally! iOS 26.1

Apple has officially rolled out iOS 26.1, and if the 'Liquid Glass' aesthetic of iOS 26 has been giving you a headache (or just making your text hard to read), this is the update you've been waiting for.

The headline feature—and the one that directly addresses the loudest user feedback since the initial launch—is the long-awaited ability to control the transparency of the new system interface.

The Liquid Glass Dilemma is Over

When iOS 26 introduced the beautiful, translucent 'Liquid Glass' design language, it was meant to be a stunning visual update. The idea was that interface elements—like the Dock, Notification Center, and buttons—would dynamically reflect and refract the content behind them, creating a sense of depth.

In reality? Many users found the ultra-transparent design to be distracting, often leading to poor contrast that made reading text and seeing icons difficult, especially over bright or busy wallpapers.

Apple's solution, arriving in iOS 26.1, is perfectly simple: they’ve handed the control over to you.

Here's How to Adjust the Transparency:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Display & Brightness.
  3. Look for the new Liquid Glass setting.

You now have two clear options:

Clear: This is the default, highly transparent design you've been using since iOS 26 launched.

Tinted: This new setting increases the opacity and contrast of the Liquid Glass elements, essentially adding a subtle, frosted background to menus and notifications. This makes text much easier to read and significantly improves overall legibility across the system.

If you’ve been struggling with eye strain or simply prefer a flatter, more readable design, switching to the 'Tinted' option is a must-do.
